FAQS

With over 20 years’ experience in running Cape Reinga sightseeing tours, we pride ourselves in understanding our customers.

Below are our most frequently asked questions. If you have any other questions, please don’t hesitate to contact us!

Do you drive on 90 mile beach?

Yes we do! The famous 90 mile beach is a stunning ride and our buses drive along the beach for quite some time. We also stop at the Te Paki Stream for you to sand board the huge sand dunes.

Do you provide a pick-up service from local accommodation?

Yes. If you are staying in the Kataia, Ahipara or Mangonui areas we offer a free shuttle service to and from the tour start/finish.

Due to unforeseen circumstances, I wish to cancel my tour. I have already paid, what happens now?

A 10% cancellation fee will apply. Contact as soon as you can with your name, reference number and tour date for your refund. This will be issued to you as soon as possible.

How long does the tour last?

The tour starts between 9.15am and 9.30am and lasts approximately 7 hours. You will be back at the starting point, the Ancient Kauri Kingdom between 4pm – 4.30pm.

I am touring New Zealand in a campervan/ car etc., but have no accommodation arranged in the area yet. Is there a place I can leave my vehicle?

You are welcome to park your vehicle either at the starting point of the tour, Ancient Kauri Kingdom. Alternatively, you can park your vehicle at our premises for the duration of the tour. You will be shuttled to the tour and on return you will be shuttled back to your vehicle.

I have booked and fully paid for a tour. Can I change the date? Will I have to pay a cancellation fee?

In that case, no re-booking fee will apply, but be advised that on your new date of travel you may have to travel on a different vehicle to the Dune Rider. Dune Rider seat reservations are subject to availability on the day.

I have my own transport. Where do I meet the tour?

The starting point for the Cape Reinga sightseeing tour is at the Ancient Kauri Kingdom where there is plenty of safe parking. You can park your car there, go on the tour, then return to your car after the tour finishes.

What happens if the Dune Rider is fully booked?

Due to high booking volume in Paihia, the Dune Rider vehicles can be fully booked at times. When this occurs, we are happy to put an extra Cape Reinga tour on a different vehicle for our customers. These vehicles are fully equipped for the Dune Rider Tour. The tour package remains the same as the Dune Rider’s tour package.

What should I do if I am going to be late to the starting point of the tour?

Please phone us at 0800 DUNE NZ (080 386 369) as soon as possible and let us know you estimated time of arrival.
